Our Story
Roast and Reins begin with four women who shared a deep love for horses.
My neighbor Kath first introduced me to Hayley, who runs a horse rescue. I wanted to be a part of the mission, so I started volunteering. Around that time, my son John was experiencing some unexplained health issues, and he began coming along for a bit of horse therapy. He quickly fell in love with one of the rescues who arrived at the barn around the same time he did.
During his time with the Barn, John was diagnosed with ALS that just 25 years old.
the way we met Jen, another volunteer who joined the rescue after losing her a loved horse, Posey. Hayley‘s rescue work was primarily based in Texas, where she traveled to auctions to save horses from the slaughter pipeline. Last June, she was given an incredible opportunity to move several of her horses to Texas and join her rescue partner Savannah to make an even greater impact.
Because of that move, I had the honor of fostering Luna, who wasn’t able to make the trip. Luna and her friend little Joe came to live at my barn last June. Sadly, we recently lost Luna due to health issues. Little Joe has sent welcomed a new companion, Mister a Hackney pony.
And the midst of all this, Kath , Jenn, and I started a Sunday tradition – meeting up to explore new coffee shops while enjoying great coffee and even better conversation. That’s how we started calling ourselves the coffee testers.
Our goal is to share unique, local shops, and highlight the cool things they offer
